The wedding of President Muhammadu Buhari’s daughter, Hanan, and Turad Sha’aban held on Friday, September 4, 2020.
A video clip from the wedding as shared by SaharaReporters showed guest spraying Naira notes on the bride and groom while they danced and this has sparked outrage online.
The spraying of naira notes is a common practice at social functions in Nigeria, however, the Central Bank of Nigeria has warned against the practice, adding that it violates Section 21 of the CBN Act 2007 and attracts a jail term of six months or N50, 000.
The video has since attracted nearly 3,000 comments on Facebook and Twitter on Sunday.
Over time, the police on the orders of the CBN have arrested and paraded persons caught selling new naira notes at party venues, however, Nigerians have wondered why the blatant spraying of naira notes could happen at the Presidential Villa
