Christina Perri announces her baby girl was ‘born silent’ in the third trimester

Christina Perri’s baby girl has tragically died after being ‘born silent’ in the third trimester.

The singer, 34, broke the devastating news by sharing a photo of herself and husband Paul Costabile holding their baby’s hand, praising their daughter’s fight to ‘make it to our world.’

Christina – who was understood to be around 32 weeks pregnant – wrote: ‘Last night we lost our baby girl. She was born silent after fighting so hard to make it to our world. she is at peace now and will live forever in our hearts.’

The heartbreaking news comes just months after the couple suffered a devastating miscarriage in January when Christina was 11 weeks pregnant.

Tragedy: Christina Perri has announced she and husband Paul Costabile’s baby daughter has tragically died after being ‘born silent’ in the third trimester

Costabile, 33, shared the same photo on social media and wrote: ‘It’s been a rough couple weeks and we’re so grateful for the outpouring of love and prayers from you all.’

The couple are also parents to a two-year-old daughter named Carmella.

Jar of Hearts singer Christina announced earlier this month that her unborn baby would have to undergo an immediate operation after she was born amid issues with her intestines – a condition known as Jejunal atresia.

Jejunal atresia is when the intestine fails to develop properly and the membrane connecting the small intestines to the abdominal wall is not completely developed or is completely absent.

The intestine subsequently twists an artery supplying blood to the colon, creating a blockage.

Christina was hospitalised on November 11 due to pregnancy complications – she took to Instagram to update her fans with the news that ‘nothing ever goes as we plan’ while resting in a hospital bed.

Heartbreak: Christina had been keeping fans up to date with her pregnancy journey – sharing this photo on October 17 – captioned ‘hello trimester three’

Perri said to her fans on November 11: ‘Hey friends. Well, nothing ever goes as we plan. Baby is having an issue, so I’m gonna be here till it’s time for baby to come out. Which might have to be very soon. Which is very early.

‘Please send some love from your heart to the little heart beating in me that we all make it through this.’

In another social share she wrote: ‘Good morning. I just had a big long cry. I’m trying my best to feel each feeling as they come up.

‘Today has been a lot of sad & angry. I didn’t sleep the whole night and I miss Carmella!’

Hospitalised: Christina was hospitalised earlier this month and revealed the baby would need an operation when she was born due to intestinal issues

On November 14, Christina updated fans, saying: ‘The baby right now is scheduled to have an operation when they arrive. We’ll spend some time in the hospital. We’re going to prepare for [a newborn intensive care unit], but anything could happen.’

She added: ‘I guess the biggest thing is we hope the baby stays inside and can get as big as possible before this big event they have to go through.

‘It’s just a couple more weeks, so I’m gonna try to take it easy and hope for the best.’

On her Instagram story on Friday, Christina, revealed the baby would need to undergo surgery immediately after birth due to jejunal atresia.

She wrote: ‘We met with the surgeon and she’s amazing. Baby has jejunal atresia but we won’t know how severe til [sic] surgery.’

The tragic loss comes 10 months after the singer revealed she had suffered a miscarriage at 11 weeks, the week before she had planned to announce the pregnancy.

Jejunal atresia is a rare type of obstruction of the small bowel affecting newborns.

Patients with this disorder are born with a complete mechanical obstruction of the proximal small intestine

Jejunal atresia affects the passage of material through the small intestine.

Symptoms in individuals with this disorder include poor feeding, vomiting bile, a swollen abdomen, and constipation.

Christina shared the devastating news in a note posted to social media.

Despite being ‘shocked’ and ‘completely heartbroken,’ she made clear she wasn’t ‘ashamed’ or ‘discouraged.’

‘Today I had a miscarriage,’ Christina wrote on Twitter and Instagram. ‘Baby was 11 weeks old. We are shocked & completely heartbroken.

‘We were only one week away from sharing the news so I feel like it’s also important to share this news too.

‘I want to continue to help change the story & stigma around miscarriage, secrecy and shame,’ she continued.

‘I am so sad but not ashamed. I am ever reminded how amazing and powerful women are at making life and at healing.

‘To all the mothers who have been here and who will be here, I see you and I love you. I am so sad but not discouraged.’

‘When the time feels right we will try again, but today we mourn our little life lost,’ she wrote.

The Thousand Years singer got engaged to TV host and entertainment reporter Paul Costabile in June 2017, before tying the knot in December of that year.

In August 2017, Christina announced she was expecting her first child, and the couple welcomed a daughter, Carmella Costabile, in January 2018.

The greatest gift we’ve ever known !!! Welcome to the world Carmella Stanley Costabile born today,’ Paul captioned an Instagram post from shortly after her birth.

‘Mom and our little principessa are doing great. Dad can’t stop crying!’ he joked.

Last month, Chrissy Teigen announced she and her husband John Legend had lost their baby boy Jack, days after she was admitted to the hospital with severe bleeding.

Staying strong: Despite being ‘shocked’ and ‘completely heartbroken,’ she made clear she wasn’t ‘ashamed’ or ‘discouraged’ in a note shared to social media

The model, 34, shared the heartbreaking news with a lengthy post and series of images on social media saying their little boy had died following ‘so many complications’ around halfway through her pregnancy.

Chrissy wrote in her post: ‘We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before.

‘We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough’.

The devastating post included five black and white photos taken at the hospital, showing Chrissy crying on her bed as well as a shot showing her and John cradling their son.

Grief-stricken: Last month Chrissy Teigen announced she and her husband John Legend had lost their baby boy, days after she was admitted to the hospital with severe bleeding

Chrissy, who conceived daughter Luna, four, and son Miles, two, through IVF with John, 41, revealed she was on ‘serious bed rest’ due to bleeding. A stillbirth is when a baby is born dead at 24 weeks or later.

In light of Chrissy’s tragedy, Kate Beckinsale revealed that she secretly suffered the heartbreaking loss of a baby 20 weeks into her pregnancy.

Taking to Instagram, the British actress, 47, spoke out in defence of Chrissy and her husband John’s choice to share the news publicly, as she spoke candidly about how she was forced to deal with her own pain privately.

Sharing an inspirational quote, Kate shared: ‘Years ago, I lost a baby at 20 weeks. I had managed to keep my pregnancy quiet and I absolutely collapsed inside and no one would have known.

She started her post defending Chrissy, writing: ‘I’ve noticed people criticizing @chrissyteigen for sharing deeply intimate photos of the loss of her baby.

Heartbreaking: Kate Beckinsale also revealed that she secretly suffered the heartbreaking loss of a baby 20 weeks into her pregnancy, in light of Chrissy’s recent tragedy

‘As if there’s some protocol during soul-scouring calamity that, if not observed, emboldens people who do not know her or her family to say how she should be handling the unimaginable.

‘Years ago, I lost a baby at 20 weeks. I had managed to keep my pregnancy quiet and I absolutely collapsed inside and no one would have known.

‘There is grief, shame and shock so often that come with an experience like this, plus the heartbreak of your body continuing, after the loss, to act as if it had a child to nurture. Your milk comes in, with no one to feed.

‘It can be the loneliest, most soul destroying period of time, particularly if you are not in the position of having an emotionally connected, supportive partner like Chrissy has.

‘I think it’s an honour to be allowed into another persons grief, especially with a subject like this which so often puts a woman into that hall of mirrors state of life continuing as if the world hasn’t, for you ,come to a bloody and terrible halt.

‘Sending so much love to the Legend family, but also so much to the women and couples who have kept it quiet and suffered. I know there are so many.

Concluding her post, Kate – who shares 21-year-old daughter Lily with ex-husband Michael Sheen – thanked Chrissy for publicly sharing her experience.
