President Donald Trump‘s top legal adviser Jenna Ellis slammed him during the 2016 GOP primary calling him an ‘idiot,’ a ‘bully’ and agreed that he was someone intent to ‘destroy American democracy.’

CNN’s KFile dug up Ellis’ old social media posts and Colorado radio appearances, finding that the top Trump team lawyer was critical of both Trump and those Republicans who supported him.

Ellis shot back with a statement calling Trump ‘the best president in modern history.’

President Donald Trump’s (left) top legal adviser Jenna Ellis (right) was extremely critical of the candidate during the 2016 Republican primary, calling him an assortment of names including an ‘idiot’ and a ‘bully’

Jenna Ellis’ Facebook posts show a stream of anti-Trump content, including this one where she refers to him as ‘Drumpf,’ which was inspired by a John Oliver segment that pointed out Trump’s ancestors had changed their name

Ellis also talked negatively about Trump’s supporters in her 2016 social media posts

Ellis, who is one of Trump’s top lawyers fighting the election results, said in 2016 that his values weren’t American

Ellis, a devout evangelical Christian shared a ‘last days’ Bible verse, comparing it to Trump. Now she says she believes he’s a true Christian

She agreed with this Washington Post op-ed that Trump ‘declared his intent to destroy American democracy,’ by threatening to change U.S. libel laws

Ellis eventually changed her mind on Trump, posting a photo of the two of them together to her Twitter account in November 2019

Ellis, an attorney and ex-law professor from Colorado, slammed Trump through the early months of 2016, while he was gaining steam in the Republican primaries.

She referred to him as ‘boorish and arrogant,’ she said his comments about women were ‘disgusting’ and she floated that he wasn’t a real Christian.

Ellis is an evangelical Christian.

At one point, she described Trump using a ‘last days’ Bible verse.

At another she referred to him as ‘Drumpf,’ Trump’s ancestral name that came to light in an John Oliver segment.

Ellis characterized Trump supporters as people who didn’t care about the truth.

‘I could spend a full-time job just responding to the ridiculously illogical, inconsistent and blatantly stupid arguments supporting Trump,’ she said. ‘But here’s the truth: his supporters DON’T CARE about facts or logic. They aren’t seeking truth.’

‘Trump probably could shoot someone in the middle of NYC and not lose support,’ she said, parroting a boast Trump had once made. ‘And this is the cumulative reason why this nation is in such terrible shape: We don’t have truth seekers; we have narcissists.’

She also floated a way Trump could be stopped.

She said the GOP could engineer a brokered 2016 Republican National Convention – comparing it to how the Electoral College works.

‘Trump absolutely should not be the GOP nominee,’ she said then.

Trump, of course, went on to win the nomination and the White House, but lost the November 3 presidential election to President-elect Joe Biden.

Ellis, however, is one of the key people trying to help overturn the result.

She didn’t deny being critical of Trump during the 2016 Republican primary – and said she’s dramatically changed her mind since.

‘It’s no secret that I did not support Donald Trump early in the primary process in 2015, like many others who didn’t know him, and I’ve always been straightforward with my opinions and I’ve always admitted when my opinion changes,’ Ellis told CNN.

‘I am glad to have learned that I was completely wrong about Trump back then and I’ve said that over and over publicly, as I saw him keeping his promises, and then eventually getting to know him personally,’ she added.

She said her past statements prove that she thinks for herself.

‘[A]nd that my mind was changed based on fact and personal knowledge,’ Ellis said.

‘President Trump is a sincere Christian, the best president in modern history, and made and kept his promises to the American people. I am proud to stand with him and his goals for the future of this country and all of its citizens,’ she said.
