IT takes uncommon grace for a traditional ruler to be on the throne for 50 years. One king who enjoys that grace is Eze Ogba of Ogbaland, Sir Chukumela Nnam Obi II, who clocks 80 this year.

In celebration of the milestone on the throne and in age, plans have been concluded to hold a grand ceremony on Friday, November 20, 2020, in his kingdom in Rivers State, amid fanfare and pageantry.

Known as Nigeria’s longest-ruling king and a former Chairman of Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council, he was crowned Eze Ogba of Ogba Kingdom in 1970 when he was 30 years old.

It was learnt that the ceremony is seen by the family of Eze Ogba as an opportunity to celebrate a king who has remained steadfast in caring for his people for the past 50 years.

Obi is the eleventh king of Ogba. His father, Obuoha Obi, was an Ogba Crown Prince, while Obi Chukwuma, his predecessor, reigned on the throne.
