Adamawa 2012: Nyako Wins PDP Guber Ticket

Incumbent Governor of Adamawa State, Admiral Murtala Nyako (rtd.) has emerged as the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the governorship elections slated for January 14, 2012 in the state.
The contest that was supposed to be between the incumbent Governor and Dr. Umar Ardo ended up a one-way affair as Governor Nyako’s opponent did not show up at the Lamido Cinema venue of the primaries in Yola.
In the course of the primaries, 863 delegates were accredited. Nine void votes were recorded; Dr. Ardo Umar did not record a single vote while Governor Nyako recorded all the 854 valid votes cast.
While speaking after the primaries, the Governor assured the party members that he would continue with the job of running the state well. He described his victory at the primary elections as “total”. Governor Nyako also expressed hope that “the PDP will have resounding victory on January 14”.
There are speculations that Nyako’s victory at the primaries might end up being challenged by Dr. Ardo Umar whose absence many have termed to mean that the primaries are unacceptable to him.
