‘We aren’t cowards, not afraid of anybody,’ PDP govs reply Wike, allies over opposition to party’s national convention

Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have issued a strong reply to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and his loyalists, vowing to maintain order within the party and rejecting what they described as arrogance, impunity, and attempts to sow division.

The Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, spoke on behalf of his colleagues on Tuesday at the inauguration of the National Convention Planning Committee.

According to him, the governors will not shy away from confronting anyone who tries to undermine the PDP’s stability or derail its progress. “We are not cowards,” he declared, signalling readiness to defend the party against internal threats.

His remarks followed a statement by Wike’s faction, which has continued to oppose the planned National Elective Convention slated for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Meeting in Abuja on September 1, Wike’s camp outlined six conditions it demanded the party leadership must meet before the convention can hold without crisis.

But Governor Mohammed dismissed the threats, insisting that the PDP governors remain focused and united. He assured party members that the convention would take place as scheduled, regardless of the dissenting voices.

“We are not cowards, and we are not afraid of anybody,” Governor Mohammed stated.

“We are capable of navigating this party beyond the shenanigans, beyond the arrogance, and beyond the impunity of others.

“We cannot continue to take part and allow people to take us to the slaughterhouse. That’s our job.

“And our job is to make sure we don’t go to the slaughterhouse.

“And we are working as governors and working with the committee to ensure that. The keyword is discipline.

“We will no longer allow or tolerate anybody to take us for granted. It has to stop. Enough is enough. We are not going to tolerate it any longer.”
