The governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde, has announced the suspension of his campaign activities over the hardship caused by scarcity of fuel and new naira notes across the country.

He also directed leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to suspend campaign activities at all levels until further notice.

Makinde disclosed this during the unveiling of the Omi-Adio/Ido road, Ibadan, the state capital, on Friday, February 3.

The governor said that the suspension was in solidarity with the residents of the state over the economic policies recently enacted by the federal government.

The governor also urged all residents and citizens of the state to remain calm, adding that the issues will be resolved by the federal government soon.

This development comes few hours after hundreds of youths stormed the streets of Ibadan, on Friday, to protest over the scarcity of petrol and new naira notes across the nation.

The protesters, armed with several placards, stormed the Idi Ape, Agodi Gate, and Iwo Road areas of Ibadan to register their grievances.
