Hours after the incident, the abductors of school children in Ekiti State have reportedly made contact with the victims’ families, demanding a hefty N100,000,000 ransom for the safe release of five abducted pupils and additional individuals.
The incident unfolded when a group of armed assailants intercepted a school bus from the Apostolic Faith School in Emure, kidnapping several pupils, their head teacher, and a driver.
The abduction took place during the evening as the victims were en route from Emure to Eporo Ekiti, following the conclusion of the school day.
As news of the kidnapping spread, panic gripped the town of Emure, with residents urgently appealing to security agencies for enhanced protection.
However, this unsettling incident further compounds the security challenges already facing Ekiti State, which recently mourned the tragic killing of two traditional rulers by suspected bandits.
The Elesun of Esun-Ekiti, David Babatunde, and the Onimojo of Imojo-Ekiti, Ogunsakin Olushola, fell victim to a violent ambush by gun-wielding assailants while returning from Ogbe, a neighboring town in the Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi state.
The attackers callously left the lifeless bodies of the rulers on a bush path, prompting a joint effort by security agencies and local vigilantes for their evacuation.
In response to these escalating security concerns, Governor Biodun Oyebanji has issued a directive to security agencies in the state, urging them to intensify efforts in apprehending the perpetrators responsible for the killing of the two traditional rulers.
Meanwhile, sources close to the affected family disclosed that the kidnappers made contact on Tuesday evening.
