The former Governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, has warned that Ademola Adeleke’s possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) could damage his political career.
Adeleke, the current governor of Osun, recently publicly endorsed President Bola Tinubu of the APC as his preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
Oyinlola noted that although Adeleke is under pressure to join the APC, such a move would not be supported by the people of Osun.
He said, “APC has not fared well with the people of Osun.
“Telling him to roll over to APC will mean ruining his political future. Obviously, the people will not go along with that. He knows that, but there is pressure on him.
“It’s now six months since the local government allocation in Osun state has been withheld, which means the people of Osun state have been short changed because the local government is no longer running.”
Oyinlola also highlighted ongoing governance challenges in the state, pointing out that local government allocations have been withheld for six months, which has significantly impacted service delivery.
“As governor, whom the people have reposed their confidence in to govern them well, he must do something to ensure that the government is running well.”
