The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has launched a nationwide protest to voice its rejection of the Federal Government’s new loan scheme, insisting the government must pay its outstanding debts instead.
ASUU members are protesting the government’s persistent neglect of their demands.
The union has rejected the Tertiary Institution Staff Support Fund loan scheme.
ASUU insists the government must pay its outstanding salaries and allowances.
Lecturers in Unijos, UNILAG, UniBen, and other institutions took part in the protests.
The government still owes three and a half months’ salary from the 2020 strike.
ASUU warned that another strike is imminent if the issues are not resolved.
The union called on President Tinubu to personally intervene as promised.
The widespread protests and blunt rejection of the government’s loan scheme show a complete lack of faith in the current administration’s approach.
