Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has commended Superintendent of Police Sentome Obi for rejecting a $17,000 bribe offered by a suspected kidnapper.
In recognition of his integrity, the governor awarded Obi a three bedroom apartment, a car, and also recommended him to the Inspector General of Police for a promotion.
According to Diri, Obi turned down the bribe from a suspect linked to the kidnapping of the state’s Chief Judge, Ebiyerin Omukoro.
While addressing the State Executive Council meeting in Yenagoa on Wednesday, July 23, the Governor disclosed that, all members of the kidnapping gang had been captured, except for their leader who is still on the run.
He said.
“Bayelsa maintains a zero tolerance stance on crime and criminality. We’ve significantly boosted our crime fighting efforts through the use of technology.
“We engaged security agencies, provided them with necessary logistics, and they successfully rescued the judge unharmed.
“Everyone connected to the kidnapping has been apprehended, except 1 individual who is still at large.”
Governor Diri further praised Obi as a role model of integrity, adding that his honorable conduct has brought respect to the Nigerian Police and pride to the people of Bayelsa State.
