Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, has appointed Kabir Akanbi as the Acting Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, effective February 13, 2025.

This announcement was made in a press release issued on Friday in Abuja by Ahmed Umar, the Supreme Court’s Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations.

Akanbi’s appointment comes after the retirement of Hajo Sarki Bello, who reached the mandatory public service retirement age of 60. Before this new role, Akanbi was the Deputy Chief Registrar overseeing the Election Petition Tribunal Unit at the Court of Appeal headquarters in Abuja.

With over two decades of experience in judicial administration, legal reforms, and public service, Akanbi has significantly contributed to modernizing Nigeria’s judicial system.

He earned his law degree from the University of Ibadan in 2001 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2003 after completing his studies at the Nigerian Law School in Lagos. In 2005, he obtained a Master’s degree in Law from Temple University in Philadelphia, United States.

Akanbi is a Fellow of both the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and the Institute of Information Management, Africa. He has been instrumental in incorporating technology-driven innovations into judicial processes.

During his tenure as Deputy Chief Registrar at the Court of Appeal, he implemented notable reforms in managing election petition tribunals, case tracking, and anti-corruption measures.

The Chief Justice has encouraged Akanbi to leverage his extensive experience in legal practice, corporate advisory, and public service leadership, especially in software development and legal technology, to enhance the Supreme Court’s efficiency, transparency, and effectiveness.
