The 36 states of the federation shared a total of N9.3 trillion as federal allocation between June 2019 and December 2022, a period of 43 months, which formed the bulk of the second tenure of the President Muhammadu Buhari.
Data sourced from 43 monthly reports of the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC), as released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) indicated that Delta state got the highest allocation during the period under review, while Akwa Ibom and Rivers states followed.
For the 43-month period, Delta state got the lion share of about N843.8 billion, Akwa Ibom state received about N643.2 billion, while Rivers state got about N642 billion.
Further findings showed that Sokoto state got the leased allocation during the three years and seven months period, as it received N119.1 billion.
It was followed by Osun state, which got the second least allocation of N126.4 billion during the review period, while the state that got the third lowest allocation was Cross River, with N141.71 billion.
Abia, Adamawa, Anambra, Bauchi and Bayelsa states received about N188.75 billion, N221.86 billion, N204.54 billion, N200.5 billion, and N543.6 billion, respectively.
Also, Benue, Borno, Ebonyi, Edo, Ekiti, Enugu and Gombe states received N192 billion, N233.9 billion, N171.3 billion, N247.5 billion, N148.4 billion, N196.3 billion, and N156.6 billion, respectively.
For Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara and Lagos states, their various FAAC allocations during the period under review were N215.96 billion, N223.7 billion N242.5 billion, N308.4 billion, N233.7 billion, N204.3 billion, N193.3 billion, N154.1 billion, and N457.4bn respectively.
The remaining states of Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, Plateau, Taraba, Yobe and Zamfara, received allocations of N179.5 billion, N189 billion, N147.8 billion, N202.8 billion, N225 billion, N149.7 billion, N267.9 billion, N184.3 billion, and N167.3 billion respectively.
Meanwhile, the states shared about N1.47 trillion from June to December 2019, while in 2020 they shared a total of about N2.29 trillion.
In 2021, the 26 states of the federation, excluding the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) shared about N2.35 trillion, while in 2022 the FAAC disbursed about N3.16 to the states.
This brings the total allocation that was shared by the states during the 43-month period to N3.27 trillion.
Meanwhile, economic analysts have said that the level of development in states is not commensurate with the allocations received by the state governments.
They confirmed that state governments, particularly those of oil-producing states, had failed to develop their areas with the trillions of naira received as allocations from FAAC every year.
They also called on civil society and other anti-corruption groups to start scrutinizing the financial expenditures of state governments, stressing that most governors embezzled the allocations from FAAC.
