The Federal Government (FG) has defended President Bola Tinubu’s record on governance, insisting that his administration has been equitable in the distribution of projects and appointments across the country.

In a statement issued on Sunday, August 31, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, dismissed claims that the president is favouring certain regions, describing such narratives as ‘half-truths and misinformation.’

He stressed that the Tinubu administration remains committed to fairness, justice, and equity in the allocation of infrastructure and opportunities nationwide.

“The distribution of capital projects under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is equitable. No region is playing a second fiddle or ignored,” Idris said.

Minister Idris highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to ensure equitable development across all six geopolitical zones through infrastructure and appointments.

Idris noted that each zone now has a regional development commission designed to stimulate growth, citing major road projects such as the Lagos–Calabar coastal highway and the Sokoto–Badagry superhighway as examples of balanced national investment.

He explained that construction is ongoing on highways, bridges, power, and rail networks, with funding secured for light rail systems worth ₦150 billion in Kano and ₦100 billion in Kaduna.

Metroline projects in Lagos and Ogun are also advancing as part of broader rail infrastructure upgrades. According to him, these projects are projected to generate over 250,000 jobs nationwide.

On healthcare, the minister said over 1,000 primary health centres have been rehabilitated, while restoration work continues on the eastern rail corridor linking Port Harcourt to Maiduguri.

Citing official data, Idris stated that the North-West has so far received the highest share of allocations at ₦5.97 trillion, representing more than 40 percent.

Other allocations include ₦2.41 trillion for the South-South, ₦1.13 trillion for the North-Central, ₦407 billion for the South-East, ₦400 billion for the North-East, and ₦604 billion for the South-West (excluding Lagos).

He also listed several ‘legacy road projects’ under the Tinubu administration, including the 750km Lagos–Calabar highway, the 1,068km Sokoto–Badagry superhighway, the 465km Trans-Sahara highway in Ebonyi, and the 439km redesigned Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe road.

He emphasized that while the North accounts for 52 percent of these projects and the South 48 percent, the distribution reflects fairness.

Idris further stressed that Tinubu’s appointments cut across all regions, reinforcing the government’s commitment to equity and inclusion.

“The establishment of five new regional development commissions and the creation of the federal ministry of livestock development further illustrate the president’s determination to address Nigeria’s unique developmental needs in a manner that benefits all sections of the country,” he added.

“President Tinubu is building national infrastructure, not local trophies. Lagos is rightly upgraded as Nigeria’s commercial hub, but the Northwest holds the lion’s share of approvals. This proves that all regions are receiving fair consideration.”

He described President Tinubu’s leadership style as inclusive, pragmatic, and focused on national unity, emphasizing that every region of the country will be carried along and none will be sidelined.
