The National Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, has embarked a 7-day warning strike at all its centers nationwide.

This strike is being initiated to press for the release of Dr. Ganiyat Popoola, a member who has been held captive for over eight months.

NARD President, Dr Dele Abdullahi, who said this in a statement, noted that the strike will begin Monday, August 26, at 12am.

Abdullahi shared that the decision was reached during a virtual Emergency National Executive Council meeting held on Sunday, August 25.

He stated that the strike will last for one week and will be comprehensive, with no emergency services being provided.

Dr. Ganiyat Popoola, who serves as a registrar in the Department of Ophthalmology at the National Eye Centre in Kaduna, was abducted nearly eight months ago along with her husband and nephew.

While her husband was released in March, Dr. Popoola and her nephew are still in captivity.

A few weeks ago, NARD members staged protests in all tertiary hospitals across the country, demanding Dr. Popoola’s immediate release.
