Officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 35 individuals for their involvement in online fraud in Auchi, Edo State.
Dele Oyewale, the spokesperson of the EFCC confirmed on Tuesday, May 6 that the arrests were carried out in several parts of the town, including Vigilante Street, off Sabo Ibenafo Road, and the Back of Yak area.
Oyewale noted that various items believed to be connected to fraudulent activities were seized from them.
These include nine vehicles, eleven laptops, 46 mobile phones, and two smartwatches.
He noted that the suspects are currently detained and are under investigation.
Oyewale stated that they will be formally charged in court once the investigation is complete.
He also stated that this development is part of the commission’s broader crackdown on cybercrime commonly referred to as ‘Yahoo Yahoo’ which continues to rise across Nigeria.
Oyewale finally encouraged the public to report any suspicious behavior and share reliable information to support the fight against financial crimes.
