Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, gave out his first daughter, Adaora, in a traditional marriage to Arinze Ibekwe on Saturday, just over two weeks after the couple’s civil wedding in London, United Kingdom.

Ibekwe is also from Anambra; he is an indigene of Odoje village in Onitsha North Local Government Area of the state.

The traditional marriage was held at the governor’s home town in Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area of the state, with dignitaries, government officials and traditional rulers in attendance.

Soludo took to his verified Facebook page to reveal that the traditional marriage was the first in his family in the last 142 years.

“In the presence of my family, kinsmen, friends, and my in-laws from Onitsha, I gave out my lovely daughter, Ifeatu Adaora Soludo, to her heartthrob after all traditional rites had been met and certified in line with the customs of the Isuofia community,” the governor wrote.

“I celebrate this historic event for two reasons. First, God has graciously blessed the larger Soludo family with another such marital union after 142 years (by my estimate).

“This is largely due to the fact that female children have been a rarity in the past three generations of the Soludo family. To break that “jinx,” God has mercifully provided me with four beautiful daughters, whom I celebrate every day.”

Soludo advised the new couple to respect all traditional and Christian matrimonial rites to raise family members that would sustain the Soludo legacy.

In his speech after the event, the spokesperson of the husband’s family, Oseloka Oranusi, assured Soludo and his wife, Nonye, that their daughter would be well taken care of.

Other dignitaries that attended the ceremony included Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, Senator Andy Ubah, the House of Representatives member representing Ihiala Federal Constituency, Pascal Agbodike, and a former House of Representatives member, Orumba North and South, Okwudili Ezenwankwo.
