Former governor of anambra state, Peter Obi, has dismissed recent threats by the Edo state Governor, Monday Okpebholo, stating that he receives threats daily and is undeterred.

Responding to recent pronouncements by Okpebholo, made during a charitable engagement at his alma mater, Christ the King College (CKC) in Onitsha, Anambra state, Peter Obi dismissed Okpebholo’s assertion that his security could not be guaranteed during a visit to Edo.

Obi, in his statement, conveyed a complete lack of apprehension regarding these threats, emphasizing their routine occurrence in his experience.

He reiterated his commitment to visiting Edo State for similar benevolent reasons if circumstances warranted, stating explicitly that warnings no longer deterred him.

Obi stated, “Threats don’t mean anything to me, I receive threats every day.

“Do you know how many times I’ve been threatened all over Nigeria? The ones you hear about are those that become public, but truly, I’m not afraid.

“If I have the opportunity to go to Benin and make donations again, trust me, I will. We should de emphasise politics and focus more on investing in people.

“I went to Benin to help because if they have good doctors and nurses, they’ll live better lives.

“What the governor should have done was to complement what I was doing in his state, instead of threatening me. He should be sincerely grateful.

“I’m in school today to make a donation, I’m going to be in school somewhere in Nigeria tomorrow too. I’m going to be in school on Saturday, July 19 I’m going to be in school on Sunday and even on Monday. Forget about the threat, it’s a waste of time.”

Obi, in collaboration with other alumni of the institution, contributed N50 million to the school, he explained that this sum was raised after he consulted with a few of the school’s old boys about the urgent need to fund the construction of staff quarters and an improved administrative building, to which they readily agreed.

“I say it everyday that those who have verifiable honest means of livelihood should endeavour to invest in schools, invest in society, invest in health, lift people from poverty and empower others. I did not say go and steal money and donate to schools.
