The Kano state government, on Monday, June 26, said that it will reconstruct the roundabout which was recently demolished, in a more secure location at the Naibawa flyover on the outskirts of the city.
Abba Kabir Yusuf, on June 14, ordered the demolition of the roundabout which was located near the government house.
Yusuf said that the roundabout was “substandard and had the tendency to collapse between 2023 and 2024.”
The governor stated that, “It was constructed with used foam work and too much sandy materials instead of normal cement concrete.
“Also, the structure is too tall to be placed in front of the government house as it defaces its main gate which blocks the view for security surveillance.”
However, Kaltume Hana, designer of the structure, while speaking on Monday morning, assured citizens that the relocation of the roundabout had been carefully surveyed to ensure there would be no challenges.
Hana noted that, “This relocation is a testament to Governor Yusuf’s commitment to preserving important cultural landmarks and promoting development in Kano state.
“We want to provide better projects for our citizens.”
Hana also expressed her gratitude to the governor and the Kano state government for preserving her work.
“It is an honour to see my work being preserved and given a new home,” she said.
It is pertinent to note that Yusuf began the demolition exercise across the state by pulling down structures at Daula Hotel and Hajj Camp in the Kano metropolis on Saturday, June 3.
The multimillion naira buildings were destroyed just like the first three storey buildings with 90 shops on Race Course road, in the Nasarawa GRA, which was demolished over two weeks ago.
The structures already demolished include the multi-billion naira project at the old Daula Hotel, shopping plazas at the Polo Ground and at the Eid ground, while residential and commercial buildings have also been marked for demolition at Salanta area and BUK road.
However, hundreds of protesters, on Monday morning, hit the streets of Kano state to express their displeasure with the ongoing demolition exercise embarked upon by the state government.
