Officers of the Katsina State Police Command have eliminated a popular bandit leader identified as Hamisu Mopol, during a shootout near the permanent site of Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA), Katsina.
Security expert Bakatsine revealed via a post on his X social media handle that the operation was conducted on Monday, May 5 by officers from the Dutsin-Ma Police Division.
Bakatsine stated that the confrontation happened during a routine patrol, when the officers encountered Mopol’s gang on the outskirts of the town.
Hamisu Mopol, the son of Hajiya Lamiso, a woman often accused by locals of sheltering bandits was fatally shot during the exchange.
The post read, “Yesterday afternoon, Dutsin-Ma Police clashed with bandits near FUDMA permanent site.
“Bandits leader Hamisu Mopol was killed.
“He’s the son of Hajiya Lamiso, often accused of sheltering bandits; witnesses say their bikes were frequently seen at her home.”
However, the state’s police spokesperson Assistant Superintendent (ASP) Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu has not yet commented on the issue.
