The Lagos State Traditional Medicine Board (LSTMB), in partnership with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has shut down six facilities belonging to Traditional Medicine Practitioners (TMPs) in the state.

These facilities were found to be operating without proper registration and with expired documentation.

The enforcement action comes after repeated instances of noncompliance by the affected practitioners.

Despite several notifications and warnings urging the facilities to register with the Board and comply with the Lagos State Health Sector Reform Law of 2015, the practitioners failed to take necessary actions.

This update was shared via a statement on the Lagos State Government’s official X handle on Saturday, February 22.

“In response to the persistent noncompliance of some Traditional Medicine Practitioners (TMPs) in the State, the Lagos State Traditional Medicine Board (LSTMB), in collaboration with officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), carried out an enforcement exercise in the Mainland axis, sealing six facilities operating without proper regularisation of practice and with outdated documents,” the statement read.

“The enforcement action followed multiple notifications and warnings issued to the affected facilities, directing them to approach the Board for registration and compliance with the Lagos State Health Sector Reform Law 2015.

“Speaking on the exercise, the Registrar, LSTMB, Prince Babatunde Adele, emphasised that the State Government will not tolerate continued disregard for regulatory requirements, stressing that practitioners must comply with the law to ensure public safety and professional accountability.

“He further noted that the Board has consistently engaged in awareness campaigns through print media and radio jingles to educate practitioners on the need for proper registration, particularly in light of the rising cases of quackery in the Traditional, Complementary, and Alternative Medicine sectors,” the statement added.
