The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed an illegal cosmetic production facility, Shine Shine Skincare, located in Agege, Lagos State, following the discovery of unregistered and hazardous bleaching products being manufactured under substandard conditions.

The operation, conducted by NAFDAC officials, revealed a range of products falsely marketed as “organic” and safe for use, despite being produced in violation of Good Manufacturing Practices.

Shine Shine Skincare, which has 100,000 followers on Instagram under the handle of its founder, Devine Nikiruka Adebayo, was found to be producing unregistered products such as Peeling White Scrub, Glass Scrub Wash, Antiaging Radiant Glow, and Customised Whitening Black Soap.

According to NAFDAC in a statement on its X account on Sunday, the items were discovered to contain unsafe levels of banned substances.

“Investigations revealed that such deceptively formulated products often contain unsafe levels of banned substances, including corticosteroid-based bleaching agents, which can cause severe health risks such as skin thinning, delayed healing, and increased vulnerability to injury,” the statement read.

NAFDAC urged the public to remain vigilant when purchasing cosmetic and other regulated products.
