A passenger train travelling from Abuja to Kaduna derailed on Tuesday, August 26 leaving several carriages overturned and triggering panic among those on board.
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) managing director, Kayode Opeifa, confirmed the train derailment involving its Kaduna bound AKTS train service.
He said that the incident occurred along the Kaduna corridor shortly after the train departed Abuja around 11 am en route Kaduna.
The cause of the derailment is currently unknown, and there have been no official reports of injuries or casualties.
He noted that, “It is a complete pandemonium. People who were confirmed to be saved were seen running in different directions. It was pure panic.
“We can not confirm if everyone is safe yet but we pray everyone comes out alive.
“Full compliment of security already on ground as effort is ongoing to move all passengers on train back to Abuja safely.”
