Russia/Ukraine war: Zelensky calls for strict sanctions on Moscow after drone attack killed 1 year old baby, several others

Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky has condemned Russia and asked western nations like the United States (US), United Kingdom (UK) e.t.c to impose strict sanctions on the Kremlin after a Russian drone struck a residential home in Pryluky, located in central Ukraine.

Zelensky noted that the drone strike which was carried out in the early hours of Thursday, June 5 resulted in the death of a one year old child and three family members.

He condemned the attack, stating that serious sanctions must be imposed on Russia because the Kremlin has continually resisted calls for a full and unconditional ceasefire.

Zelensky said, “Russia is constantly trying to buy time for itself to continue killing.

“When it does not feel strong enough condemnation and pressure from the world, it kills again.

“This is yet another reason to impose maximum sanctions and put pressure together.

“We expect action from the United States, Europe, and everyone in the world who can really help change these terrible circumstances.”

He noted that the drone strike resulted in the death of five people among them three generations from a single family.

Zelenskyy also noted that a local fire chief, who had been responding to an earlier incident, lost his own home in the attack.

Adding that, The wife, daughter and one-year-old grandson were killed of the fire chief lost their lives as a result of the drone strike.”

Images from the scene showed houses engulfed in flames, thick smoke rising into the night sky as emergency crews worked to control the fire.

By dawn, photos released by emergency services depicted the charred remains of a house, its roof destroyed and debris scattered, with a firefighter standing amid the ruins.

In recent weeks, fighting and aerial strikes have intensified, even as Ukraine and Russia have participated in two rounds of peace talks in Istanbul, aimed at resolving the conflict now in its third year.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly told US president, Donald Trump that Russia would retaliate following a bold Ukrainian drone strike that destroyed several Russian military aircraft capable of carrying nuclear weapons.
