Trump considers deporting Elon Musk for his criticism over spending bill

United States (US) President Donald Trump has indicated, he might consider deporting Elon Musk after the South African born billionaire criticized a major spending bill introduced by the Trump administration.

Trump in a post on his Truth social media platform stated that without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa.

Trump intensified his threat, suggesting that Elon Musk’s criticism of his ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ stemmed from the removal of measures supporting electric vehicles (EVs).

He also indicated that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which Musk previously led before resigning in late May, could potentially investigate the government subsidies received by the Tesla and SpaceX founder.

Trump said, “We might have to put DOGE on Elon. You know what DOGE is? DOGE is the monster that might have to go back and eat Elon.

“He is losing his EV mandate, he is very upset about things, but you know, he could lose a lot more than that, I can tell you right now. Elon can lose a lot more than that.”

Trump echoed these sentiments on his social media platform known as Truth Social on Monday, June 30 stating that without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa.

Musk, currently the world’s wealthiest individual, was Trump’s largest donor in the 2024 election and initially maintained a close presence with the newly elected president.

However, the two had a public and bitter disagreement this month over the aforementioned bill.
