Members of the United States (US) house of representatives on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, voted for the third time to end the war in Iran by approving a war powers resolution that would limit president Donald Trump’s ability to continue military action without congressional approval.
The vote passed 220-204, with seven Republicans joining Democrats in supporting the resolution.
The latest action followed similar votes by lawmakers in June and July.
The resolution faces uncertainty in the senate, which has yet to act on the July measure.
The senate had previously approved a war powers resolution aimed at ending the conflict, but Republican senators reversed their position the following day after Trump criticised them during a closed-door lunch.
The White House had also challenged the June resolution, while the Senate has not taken further action on the July vote.
Trump had campaigned on a promise not to involve the United States in foreign wars during his second term.
The president has defended the military action in Iran, saying the conflict has weakened the country’s military capabilities.
