A Nigerian lecturer, Dr Ayodele Temidayo Odularu, was found dead at her residence in Eastern Cape, South Africa, her brother disclosed on Wednesday, September 16.
Temidayo Odularu died on Monday, August 16, while a family member said her death was not from natural causes and that the circumstances remained unclear.
Her brother, Dr Gbadebo Odularu, disclosed the death following the launch of a GoFundMe campaign for the family.
The 51-year-old Odularu, was an Independent Senior Researcher at the University of Fort Hare, where she contributed to academic research on access to knowledge, educational opportunities and sustainable development.
The family described her as a scholar, mentor and source of encouragement to those around her, saying she was committed to uplifting others through her work.
The university held a memorial service for Odularu on Thursday, September 17, to honour her life and contributions to the academic community.
Her family is seeking an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.
