Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo on Sunday September 20, condemned the alleged destruction of All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign billboards and looting of shops in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
Taking to his social media pages, Keyamo, alleged that supporters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) carried out the destruction and looted his community on Friday, September 18.
According to the minister, the incident involved the destruction of the Door-to-Door Campaign Organisation billboards erected by former militant commander, Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo aka Tompolo, in support of the APC.
He further alleged that the attackers entered some shops in the area with weapons and looted goods, while also claiming that some law-enforcement personnel were present during the incident.
“I want the world to see what the NDC’s thugs came to my community in Effurun, Uvwie LGA of Delta State, to do on Friday, 18th September, 2026,” he wrote.
“They wrecked havoc on billboards pasted everywhere by Tompolo’s door-to-door Campaign Organisation, entered people’s shops with dangerous weapons and looted the shops.
“If it had been the other way round against the APC, the section of the bias press and so-called human rights groups would have been screaming to high heavens, but since this happened, EVERYWHERE IS MUTE.”
Keyamo described the incident as unacceptable and criticised what he called a double standard in the public reaction to political violence.
He also referenced the recent controversy surrounding the alleged blockade of the entourage of NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi from entering Benue State, saying the Delta incident was, in his view, more serious.
“This is the exact point I made when I openly condemned the blockade of Peter Obi’s entourage from entering Benue State,” he continued.
“But what happened in Benue is nothing compared to this. The double standards everywhere is sickening.”
The minister said he would submit a petition to the Inspector-General of Police during the week, calling for a thorough investigation into the incident and prosecution of anyone found culpable.
He said his petition would not be limited to members of the NDC, adding that any APC leader found to have crossed the line should also face appropriate action.
“I will be submitting a petition to the Inspector General of Police this week to thoroughly investigate this incident and bring all those found wanting to book (even against APC leaders, if anyone crossed the line).”
He also called for disciplinary action against any law-enforcement personnel found to have condoned or participated in the alleged destruction and looting.
“Disciplinary action should also be taken against those law-enforcement agents in their midst that condoned the looting and destruction of properties.
“The video is clear and the evidence is overwhelming. We have more evidence. The thugs were even accompanied by law-enforcement agents in their payroll. As the foremost political leader in that community,
“I will not let this slide. I have warned everyone not to resort to self-help,” he said.
