Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA on Monday, September 21, intercepted suspected terrorists fleeing Asarara Kaura Community in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto state.
The troops acted on credible intelligence regarding the movement of the suspected terrorists and moved swiftly to intercept them along the Tambuwal–Gadaichi–Gummi axis.
The troops caught up with the fleeing terrorists along the route, leading to an exchange of gunfire between the two sides.
The suspected terrorists engaged the troops in a gun battle but were forced to retreat into the surrounding bushes after coming under pressure from the military.
Some of the terrorists sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter as they fled into the bushes.
The Nigerian Army confirmed the development, saying the troops responded promptly after receiving credible intelligence on the movement of the suspected terrorists.
The troops remained in pursuit of the fleeing terrorists as efforts continued to locate and apprehend those who escaped into the surrounding bushes.
The operation forms part of ongoing security efforts by troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to disrupt the activities of terrorists and other criminal elements operating across the North-West.
The military has continued to intensify intelligence-driven operations, patrols and targeted engagements in areas identified as vulnerable to terrorist and criminal activities.
The latest operation also highlights the troops’ continued efforts to respond swiftly to intelligence on the movement of suspected terrorists and prevent them from carrying out attacks in affected communities.
