Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation WHIRL STROKE, in a coordinated operation with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and local vigilantes, on Monday, September 14, raided a suspected terrorist enclave and rescued seven kidnapped victims in Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue state.
The operation followed credible intelligence on the activities of suspected kidnappers operating around Amla-Icho, Ogobia and Anpekchi communities in Ohimini Local Government Area.
Acting on the intelligence, the troops, alongside police personnel and local partners, launched an intelligence-led search and rescue operation across the identified areas.
During the operation, the security team advanced into the suspected kidnappers’ hideout and engaged in a search of the surrounding terrain. On sighting the approaching troops, the suspected kidnappers fled into the surrounding bushes, abandoning their victims in the process.
The rescued victims were subsequently recovered by the troops and moved to a safe location for necessary assistance and further processing.
The operation underscores the continued efforts of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to disrupt the activities of criminal elements, rescue abducted persons and restore security in communities affected by kidnapping and other violent crimes.
The troops have also intensified surveillance and security operations within the area to prevent the suspected kidnappers from regrouping and to track down those who fled during the operation.
