Ebonyi state governor, Francis Nwifuru, on Saturday, September 19, relieved the commissioner for works, Stanley Lebechi Mbam, of his duties.
The governor’s chief press secretary, Monday Uzor, announced the removal in a statement, directing Mbam to immediately hand over all government property in his possession, including his official vehicle, to the Secretary to the State Government.
Mbam was also instructed to transfer his responsibilities to the permanent secretary in the ministry of works.
The statement did not disclose the reason for the commissioner’s removal but said the governor remained focused on effective governance and improving public infrastructure in the state.
The latest decision comes about seven months after Nwifuru suspended Mbam indefinitely over alleged dereliction of duty and concerns about the pace of project delivery in the ministry of works.
Nwifuru had, on February 28, suspended Mbam alongside the commissioner for infrastructure development for concession, Ogbonnaya Obasi Abara.
Three days later, on March 3, Mbam publicly apologised to the governor and appealed for another opportunity to continue serving in the administration.
He took responsibility for what he described as shortcomings in meeting the government’s expectations.
Nwifuru later recalled Mbam and other suspended officials on May 3, allowing him to return to his position as Commissioner for Works.
Mbam resumed his duties following the recall before his latest removal from office on September 19.
