Osun state governor Ademola Adeleke on Thursday, September 17, gifted N20 million to a phone vendor in Ilesa after thieves broke into his shop and carted away phones and other gadgets overnight.
The vendor was seen in a distressed state in a video circulating online after arriving at his shop and discovering that thieves had stolen almost all his goods.
The phone vendor, who is based in Ilesa, Osun state, said he arrived at his shop in the morning to find that the thieves had emptied the store, leaving behind mostly phone pouches and a few chargers.
According to him, the shop had a bunker and a safe, but the thieves still managed to gain access to the premises and steal the valuables inside.
Overwhelmed by the loss, the vendor appealed to Nigerians for help, asking members of the public to assist in identifying those responsible for the theft.
He also appealed for financial assistance, explaining that some customers had already paid for phones that were yet to be delivered.
He said the theft left him with the responsibility of either refunding the affected customers or replacing the stolen phones.
In a new video shared online, the vendor expressed gratitude to barrister Pelumi Olajengbesi, who used his TikTok platform to draw governor Adeleke’s attention to the incident.
The vendor, visibly excited by the development, showed a credit alert of N20 million, which he said he received from governor Adeleke.
He subsequently appealed to netizens to join him in appreciating the governor for the financial support following the loss.
“Thank you so much for the money. I really appreciate your kindness and generosity. May God continue to bless you, sir,” the vendor said.
Olajengbesi revealed that an additional N10 million would be given to other shop owners who were robbed in the area.
