Troops of the Nigerian Army under Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, on Tuesday, September 15, rescued 10 abducted civilians during a swift operation against armed terrorists in Katsina state.
The operation followed reports that terrorists had abducted residents of Unguwan Daudu and Unguwan Chibauna communities in Funtua Local Government Area of the state.
Following receipt of actionable intelligence, troops deployed around the Sabuwa axis were mobilised to intercept the terrorists as they fled with the victims.
The troops launched a sustained pursuit of the terrorists, putting them under pressure as they attempted to escape with the abducted civilians.
The pressure forced the terrorists to abandon their captives and flee into the surrounding area.
The troops subsequently secured all 10 victims and moved them to a safe location.
The rescued victims comprised three adult males, six females and one infant.
The victims are expected to be handed over to the Sabuwa Local Government authorities for medical evaluation and necessary support before being reunited with their families.
The successful operation highlights the continued efforts by the Nigerian Army, security forces and other security agencies under Operation FANSAN YAMMA to disrupt terrorist activities, rescue abducted civilians and restore security across communities in the North-West.
Troops are expected to sustain operations in the area to prevent the terrorists from regrouping and to further enhance the safety of residents.
