A 36-year-old Nigerian, Babatunde Odutola, of no fixed address, was sentenced to 44 weeks in prison on Monday, September 14, 2026, after subjecting a woman to a disturbing ordeal on a train travelling through Cheshire towards Manchester Piccadilly in the United Kingdom (UK).
Odutola was sentenced at Manchester Magistrates’ Court after pleading guilty to one count of outraging public decency and breaching a suspended sentence order. The sentence came three days after the incident.
At about 7pm on Friday, September 11, Odutola approached a woman travelling alone on the train and looked her up and down in an intimidating manner.
He became aggressive after she refused to engage with him before exposing himself while sitting in a wheelchair.
He then masturbated while looking at the woman and told her to “come over,” prompting a fellow passenger to escort the distressed woman out of the carriage.
CCTV footage showed Odutola continuing the act as other passengers passed through the carriage.
Police were called, and officers from the British Transport Police arrested him after the train arrived at Manchester Piccadilly.
British Transport Police Detective Constable Leonidas Christoforou said Odutola’s behaviour must have been terrifying for the woman, whom he singled out while she was travelling alone.
Christoforou said Odutola showed little remorse and denied the allegations during a police interview but was confronted with CCTV footage and witness accounts before pleading guilty in court.
He added that the incident was not an isolated case, noting that Odutola was already a registered sex offender.
Christoforou warned that such behaviour would not be tolerated on the railway, adding that holding offenders accountable remains a priority for the force.
