13 suspected bandits were seized, killed and their corpses burnt to ashes on Saturday, September 18th, 2021 by an angry mob who overran the Divisional Police headquarters in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Daily Trust is reporting.
It was gathered that the bandits were among those who invaded the area around 8 pm on Friday and killed two persons, including a shop owner.
The bandits were said to have carted away some food items in the shop and forced two residents to carry the food items into the bush, after which they killed them.
The police and local security guards later mobilised and went after them.
In an early morning raid, 13 of the attackers were nabbed in Tangaza forest and brought to the Divisional police headquarters.
It was also gathered that the stolen food items were recovered during the operation.
A resident of the area, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said after the suspected bandits were brought to the station, angry youths stormed the station, overpowered the police and killed all the suspects whose corpses were set on fire.
He said residents are now all out to defend their community against any possible reprisal.
“And more security operatives have been deployed in the area,” he added.
The spokesman of the Sokoto Police Command, ASP Sanusi Abubakar, confirmed the incident but did not go into details.
