Not less than 20 people suspected to be oil thieves and pipeline vandals are believed to have died in the fire that erupted in Arepo Village in Ogun State. The fire was the result of an explosion that rocked the pipeline of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in the village.

The victims were mostly vandals who had come in boats to siphon fuel from the pipeline. An account had it that an argument ensued between some of the suspected vandals and one of them started shooting. One of the bullets apparently punctured a part of the pipeline and caused an explosion.

Meanwhile, fuel supply may be cut short again in some parts of the country as the affected pipeline is the one that feeds the Ibadan depot of the NNPC directly from Lagos.

Efforts to reach Mr Muyiwa Adejobi, the Police PRO proved futile as calls to his phone were not answered.
