The senate, on Tuesday, January 17, said that it would adjourn next week’s plenary to enable lawmakers to carry out campaigns for the forthcoming general elections.

The senate president, Ahmad Lawan, disclosed this during plenary on Tuesday morning, according to The Nation.

Lawan said that the break would enable lawmakers contesting for various offices during the forthcoming general elections to carry out necessary campaigns in their various constituencies.

He noted that, “We are prepared to sit up to Friday, January 20, in a bid to attend to all urgent issues requiring our attention, so we don’t have to sit next week in view of the forthcoming elections.”
