A prominent member and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has revealed the reason why he will not vote for the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in next year’s presidential election.
George said that he will not vote for the former vice-president unless the issue of inclusivity in the party is addressed.
He disclosed this on Tuesday morning, December 13, according to Arise TV.
George noted that he is in support of the call for the resignation of the party’s national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.
He added that the lingering crisis rocking the party might cause its defeat in the 2023 presidential election.
George stated that, “Until PDP returns to the founding fathers’ principles of unity, with equity, fairness and justice, and ensuring broad-mindedness to accommodate the concerns of all zones in this country, this party becomes vulnerable to disaster in the 2023 elections.”
While re-stating his earlier stance, the PDP chieftain said that he would not vote for Atiku in the forthcoming election unless the issue of inclusivity in the party is addressed.
George said that, “I will not vote for the presidential candidate of our party until the issue of inclusivity is addressed.
“Let the national leadership of PDP sit down, and think over it. It is not negotiable. Everyone is important and needed for this election,” he added.
Recall that since the emergence of Atiku as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 general election, there have been intensified moves by some aggrieved members of the party, especially from the camp of the Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, for Ayu’s replacement by a candidate from the South.
They argued that the party’s presidential flagbearer for the 2023 presidential poll, and the national chairman, cannot come from the same geo-political zone.
Wike’s camp also noted that they want Ayu to be replaced by a candidate from the south for the purpose of equity and political equation balance.
