Ibrahim Masari, chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has said that the governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike, is going to work for the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, in the 2023 general election.
Wike, who is a member of the major opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had on Tuesday, August 23, met with the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, in Paris, France, The Cable reports.
The Rivers state governor is said to be mulling to support the ruling party in next year’s presidential election, after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, chose the governor of Delta state, Ifeanyi Okowa, as his running mate.
Masari, on Wednesday, August 24, confirmed that Tinubu had a meeting with Wike.
“The meeting between Tinubu and Wike is true. It was basically about the 2023 presidential election,” Masari said.
“By God’s grace, we are going to work with Governor Wike.
“Wike will work for Tinubu in 2023, despite his fraternity with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“I am sure he will assist us, and we are going to win the election with ease.
“This is because Wike is a big politician, and has control in some other states apart from Rivers state.
“He is good to the people of Rivers state, and has associated with his people peacefully.
“Wike will be of immense help to All Progressives Congress (APC).
“If you could remember, it was All Progressives Congress (APC) that caused the failure of the party in Bauchi state, and it was members of the party that led to the defeat of the governor from their own party.
“So, what I want people to understand is that a politician can still assist an opposition party, even without joining the them, if he wants to.
