Three female inspectors from the Rivers State Police Command have been arrested on charges of allegedly extorting motorists in the Rumuokoro area of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
This development follows a surge of complaints on social media regarding the conduct of the female operatives in the area.
The police said they were arrested on Tuesday, October 29 following a coordinated monitoring patrol by men of the Commissioner of Police team.
In a statement released in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, October 30, Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokesperson for the state police command, made this disclosure.
Iring-Koko stated that the officers’ unlawful activities were recorded on a mobile phone, offering clear proof of their actions.
She condemned the operatives’ actions as unprofessional, especially since they were out of uniform, and noted that they had been detained while awaiting suitable disciplinary action.
The statement indicates, “On Wednesday, the Rivers State Police Command apprehended three of its officers as a result of a coordinated monitoring patrol conducted by operatives from the Commissioner of Police team, Monitoring Unit.
“The operation, which took place under the Rumuokoro Flyover around 3PM, resulted in the arrest of Inspectors Sarah Anendei, Caroline Promise, and Christiana Jatau, who were found involved in corrupt activities targeting unsuspecting motorists beneath the flyover.
“Two of the officers, Inspectors Caroline Promise and Christiana Jatau, were observed engaging in this unprofessional conduct while out of uniform, which further violated police standards.
“Their misconduct was recorded on a mobile phone, serving as clear evidence of their actions.”
The public Relation Officer (PPRO) noted that during the on-site investigation, the operatives searched the officers and retrieved the money taken from the motorists, demonstrating a prompt commitment to maintaining ethical standards within the Rivers State Police Command.
She added, “The officers are presently in detention and awaiting suitable disciplinary action.
“The Rivers State Police Command reiterates its dedication to professional integrity and assures the public that any personnel found in violation of service principles will be held accountable.”
