32 residents killed, several abducted as terrorists attack 4 communities in Niger

Terrorists attacked four communities in Borgu and Agwara local government areas of Niger state on Saturday, February 14, killing 32 residents and abducting several others.

The first attack occurred around 3:00 a.m. in Tunga-Makeri village, Buruku local government area, where the terrorists killed six people and set houses ablaze before moving to neighboring communities.

The terrorists later invaded Konsoko, Zango, and Pissa communities around 6:00 a.m., launching a four-hour attack, where at least 26 more people were killed.

According to eyewitnesses, the terrorists went from house to house and village to village, killing people with machetes and firearms.

The affected villages, located roughly 200 kilometers from the Nigerian air force base in New Bussa, were left in ruins as residents fled into the bush for safety.

The Niger state police command spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed that six people were killed during the initial attack on Tunga-Makeri.

He noted that the attackers set several houses ablaze and abducted an unspecified number of residents.

Abiodun added that the terrorists later moved toward other communities, including Konsoko, but further details remain sketchy.

He said joint security teams have been deployed to the affected areas for assessment, with rescue efforts currently underway to locate and free the abducted victims.
