Five people were killed on Friday night when a Dangote cement truck lost its brakes and collided with a tricycle along the Papalanto–Ilaro road, at the Alapoka axis in Yewa south, Ogun state.
According to Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) on Saturday, the accident occurred around 8:25 pm.
“The truck, bearing licence plate GRZ 767 XA, reportedly lost braking control and ploughed into an unregistered tricycle carrying five passengers.
“All five occupants died instantly at the scene,” he said.
Akinbiyi said TRACE operatives, led by the acting TRACE head, Adedayo Omonayajo, and the Ilaro divisional TRACE commander, Salako Idowu, rushed to the crash site for rescue operations.
He added that residents threatened to attack the rescue team before intervention by the Amotekun corps.
“Federal road safety corps officials later conveyed the bodies to the morgue,” he stated.
Over the years, similar incidents involving Dangote trucks have been reported across Nigeria.
