Political realignments have hit the Zamfara State House of Assembly as six lawmakers elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have formally defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The legislators conveyed their decision through individual letters addressed to the leadership of the assembly, where they blamed internal party crises, alleged violations of constitutional provisions and what they described as ineffective management of the legislative arm.
“I write to formally inform the Honourable Speaker and Honourable Members of this Honourable House my decision of defection from People Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressive Congress, APC, due to lingering and unresolved crises of my party, PDP, which resulted to factional leadership,” the letters read.
“Therefore, my decision is consonant and pursuant to Section (l) (g) of the 1999 Constitution of Nigerian 2011 (as amended), and poor leadership of Governor Dauda Lawal ranging from negligence in the security of the state and unfulfilled promises made as his campaign manifestos.
“I therefore found it expedient to make this decision voluntarily.”
Those who crossed over to the APC are Muktar Nasir Kaura, representing Kaura North; Nasiru Abdullahi Maru of Maru North; Amiru Ahmad Keta from Tsafe West; Bashar Aliyu Gummi of Gummi I constituency; Bashir Abubakar Masama from Bukkuyum North; and Bashir Bello of Bungudu West.
The lawmakers said their move was driven by the belief that the APC offers a more inclusive and stable platform that would enhance justice, fairness and harmony, while enabling them to more effectively represent their constituents and support the overall development of Zamfara State.
