The Niger State Emergency Management Agency has confirmed that nine bodies have been recovered from the boat accident that occurred in the Shiroro Local Government Area of the state.
The Head of Relief and Rehabilitation in NSEMA, Alhaji Salihu Garba, revealed this in an interview in Minna on Sunday, November 19.
It may be recalled that 10 persons were confirmed dead in a boat accident that occurred on Thursday, November 16.
The victims, mostly traders, were conveying goods from the Zongoru Community of Bassa Ward to Gijiwa, ahead of Friday market in Kuta, headquarters of Shiroro Local Government Area.
He stated that there were 24 male and female adults and 10 male and female children in the boat when it capsized.
Meanwhile, a similar event occurred, in Niger state with at least 26 persons, mostly women and children died while several others went missing in a boat mishap.
It was also gathered the boat was conveying over 100 persons from adjoining communities to New Gbajibo Resettlement when it capsized on September 10.
The council chairman, Jibrim Muregi while confirming the accident, stated that the actual number of travelers cannot be ascertained.
A combined rescue operation by marine police and local divers in collaboration with NSEMA was ongoing and the governor prayed that Allah would comfort the families of the deceased and grant quick recovery to those injured.
