The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja Police Command, today Thursday, January 25, has reported an operation conducted by operatives from the Anti-kidnapping Unit and Rubochi Division, resulting in the rescue of 14 kidnap victims.
The operation, which occurred on Wednesday, January 24, targeted a kidnappers’ den located at Ukya village in Nasarawa State, bordering the FCT.
Acting on credible intelligence, the combined team engaged in a confrontation with the kidnappers, leading to a gun duel.
In response, the kidnappers opened fire on the police officers, resulting in a neutralized assailant, while the rest fled into a nearby forest with various degrees of bullet wounds.
The Police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, confirmed that the rescued hostages were unharmed and have been reunited with their families.
The Commissioner of Police Haruna G. Garba, expressed commitment to eradicating criminal activities in the FCT and maintaining peace.
In a related development, the police announced the arrest of a suspected kidnapper in Sauka village on January 21.
The suspect was apprehended, and a kidnapped victim was rescued during the operation conducted by police operatives from Iddo Division.
The victim, Suleiman Sabo, was forcefully taken from his moving Prado Jeep and found with the suspect in Sauka village.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Haruna Garba, disclosed that since the establishment of the Special Intervention Squad, there have been no reports of kidnappings in the Bwari axis of the FCT.
The police have successfully blocked identified bandits’ routes, leading to the arrest of numerous suspected kidnappers and armed robbers, with the rescue of their victims.
The commissioner also highlighted the recovery of arms, live ammunition, and vehicles taken from victims in the ongoing efforts to enhance security in the region.
