The Adamawa state police command has arrested a 32 year old man, identified as Anas Dauda, after a video surfaced online showing him offering an AK-47 rifle for rent or sale to interested buyers online.
Police spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje, who confirmed the arrest in a statement on Friday, said the suspect was tracked down in Mubi south local government area following the video, which spread widely on social media earlier in the week.
“The suspect was seen in the video holding an AK-47 rifle loaded with three magazines while making disturbing and threatening comments.
“His conduct generated fear and panic among residents, prompting immediate police action,” Nguroje said.
According to the statement, Adamawa state commissioner of police, Dankombo Morris, ordered a team of detectives led by the divisional police officer of Mubi south to locate and arrest the suspect after the video was brought to the attention of the command.
Police operatives eventually traced Dauda to a remote part of Mubi town, where he was apprehended without resistance.
“Our officers acted swiftly on intelligence and successfully arrested the suspect for unlawful possession of firearm.
“Investigation is ongoing to recover the weapon displayed in the video and identify its source,” Nguroje added.
The command has assured the public of its commitment to maintaining law and order across the state, warning that anyone found in possession of illegal arms would be prosecuted.
