Men of the Adamawa state police command have apprehended a 35-year-old serial rapist identified as Wilson Sunday, said to have raped five minors between the ages of 12 to 14 years in Bachure, Yola North Local Government Area.
Confirming the development, spokesperson of the sate police command, SP Yahaya Nguroje, said the suspect who resides in Damilu, in Yola North committed the crime from January 2023 and subsequently continued.
The police PRO, Nguroje said that the 35 year old suspect lured the victims into an uncompleted building, away from the glare of the public and had unlawful carnal knowledge of them, on their way going or returning from school.
He said that the incident was reported to the Divisional Police Headquarters, Kofare by the parents of the victims after observing the unrestrained manner the suspect carried out the act.
A statement by the state police command showed that, ‘’Preliminary investigation so far reveals that the suspect is a father of two and now leaving alone after he separated with his wife.
“Investigation further reveals that the accused was once convicted for similar offence.
“The Commissioner of Police CP Afolabi Babatola expressed worry over the unfortunate incident and directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of CID to take over investigation and ensure diligent prosecution.”
In a related development, the police in the state have arrested another 22 year old Raphael Peter, a resident of Bulabuli, Michika Local Government, for raping an 18 year old student.
Base on the common nature of rape cases in the state, Nguroje advised members of the public, particularly parents to be very watchful of their children and wards against criminal elements who roam about looking for unsuspecting victims of their devices.
He said upon noticing activities of such individuals, members of the public should not relent in reporting such persons seeking whom to take advantage of and report such characters the Police.
He equally appealed to the general public, especially parents to key into the command’s fight against all forms of Gender Based Violence (GBV), saying that the police are ready to prosecute perpetrators in accordance with the extant laws.
