Former Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the National Pension Commission, Alhaji Adam Mu’azu was on Monday chosen as the new Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party. The choice was made during a meeting by President Goodluck Jonathan and governors elected on the party’s platform. The meeting which was held at the Presidential Villa on Sunday dragged till around 1.30 am on Monday.
Mu’azu will replace the former chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur who resigned his position last Wednesday.
It seems to be a good year for the former Governor who was sworn in as the chairman of the Pensions Commission just a week ago.
There had been insinuations that Mohammed Wakil, a former Leader of the House of Representatives was the favoured candidate of the Presidency. Mu’azu was however considered ahead of Wakil who was rejected for his inability to carry people along during his time as Leader in the legislative chamber.
Mu’azu will be presented to members of the National Executive Committee of the party later on Monday for ratification.
59-year-old Alhaji Mu’azu ruled Bauchi State as Governor from 1999 to 2007.
