The sacked governor of Osun state, Ademola Adeleke, has described the judgment of the governorship election petitions tribunal as “a miscarriage of justice.”
Adeleke also vowed to challenge the ruling at the court of appeal.
The state election petitions tribunal hearing the petition of the immediate past governor of the state, Adegboyega Oyetola, against the victory of Ademola Adeleke, on Friday, January 27, annulled the result of the July 16, 2022 governorship poll in the state
The judge, Justice Tertse Kume, while delivering the verdict, declared that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) did not comply substantially with the constitution and the provisions of the electoral act.
Adeleke, while reacting to the verdict of the tribunal from his country home in Ede region of Osun state, criticized the judgment, describing it as “an unfair interpretation against the will of majority of voters.”
While urging his supporters to remain calm, Adeleke vowed to appeal the judgment at the court of appeal, insisting that he remained the authentic winner of the July 2022 election, according to The Punch.
He said that, “I call on our people to remain calm. We will appeal the judgement and we are sure that justice will be done.
“Let our people be reassured that we will do everything possible to retain this widely acclaimed mandate.”
