A consulting agency in Human Resources (HR) management, Certification Edge, has trained 79 managers on HR practice to equip them with effective leadership management skills to drive organisational growth. At a training for various company representatives, tagged, ‘Managers that Manage: Bridging the Management Gap for Exponential Growth.’ According to the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Certification Edge, Ajibola Bamidele, who facilitated the training, he described a manager as someone who drives results and constantly engages people. Noting that managers ought to have a skilled mindset to bridge the gap for business growth, he argued that in every organisation, not all managers that have the managerial title know what it takes to manage. According to him, “Managers are not born but are made. Therefore the leadership and management capability of managers must be equal to the management needs of the organisation.” He maintained that managerial competence, which required innovative skills to build, comes first with self-discovery, asking and answering basic questions to avoid errors that come with management. He said the firm offers over 15 programmes and courses, where managers are taught how to communicate, manage diversity and teams, among others. A participant and HR Manager of VCare Diagnostics Limited, Ketim Momoh, said: “I have learnt to be a better manager than I have been. I have also been able to identify what I have been doing that is not in line with the right approach to management. So I am going home basically to do away with things that I have been doing wrongly and to start to apply the principles of good management to my organisation going forward.” On his part, Opeoluwa Israel, another participant at the event and also Head of Finance, Fine Bricks Properties and Investment Limited, said the training was an eye opener as it has enabled him to change his perception about managing people. He added there were better ways to achieve team goals by delegating and empowering others.
